Selection of Bristle Type
Basic factor when manufacturing brush rolls
- Nylon material :PA 6 and the equivalent nylon are basic materials. Among the materials, we offer the brush product made from the upper grade nylon (super high molecular) or the standard nylon. In addition, the special properties like “acid-resistance” and “heat-resistance” typed nylons are available.
- Abrasive material :Silicon carbide (#1000 - 80) and aluminum oxide (#1000 - 500) are basic materials in our product range. We choose the suitable grid number and material, considering the influence to the strip surface.
- Bristle outside diameter :When the bristle outside diameter is thicker, brush rolls would be more suitable for powerful brushing (Descaling). On the other hand, when the bristle outside diameter becomes thinner, brush rolls would be more suitable for fine brushing (Cleaning). However, there are some types of brush bristle cannot be manufactured depending on the size of grinding material.
There are two key functions of brush bristle.
"A function to deliver brushing force to the tip of brush bristles (A)"
"A function to touch on the strip surface and grind (B)"
By optimizing this two functions will result in an effective brushing.
Designing Brush Rolls
It needs to be designed according to the purpose.
- Outside diameter of brush rolls :By changing the outside diameter of brush rolls, brushing performance can be changed. For example, the bigger brush roll outside diameter becomes, the less brushing performance decreases. The smaller brush roll outside diameter becomes, the more brushing performance increases. If there is an existing brush roll scrubber, the inspection is required due to the limitation of machine specification and dimension.
- Filament length :It needs to be selected in consideration of brush roll life and brushing performance.
- Brush-filling method (Disk / Spiral) :The brush filling methods are largely divided into two types ; Disk type and Spiral type. Hotani only produces Disk type brush rolls, which realize a constant high quality brushing during long term use.
Brushing Condition
It needs to be selected for the aimed brushing performance and its performance.
- Brush Roll rotation speed (rpm) :In general, the faster rotation speed of brush roll improves cleaning or descaling capacity. At the same time, its lifetime would be shorter because the number of contact time to the strip is increased. Therefore, the rotation speed needs to be set according to the targeted or requiring performance.
- Screw-in amount :Even the same specification, the brushing performance can be changed by adjusting screw-in amount. We recommend its amount up to 3.0mm.
- Brush spray :Brush spray is fundamental for the brush bristle made of nylon. The main purposes of the brush spray are "Removal of friction heat" that is generated at the contact point of the brush bristles and the strip surface, and "Removal of dirtiness (iron fines)" that is generated from the strip surface. In addition, it needs to be adjusted in consideration of enhancing the brushing quality for the flow amount of brush spray and the improvement of the spray angle.
■The purpose of brush spray
- Removal of friction heat that is generated at the touch point of a brush roll and a strip.
- Removal of iron fine and milling oil separated from strip surface by brushing.
- In case of cleaning liquid (Alkali liquid etc.), above purposes additionally increasing of the cleaning performance.
